Since its first release in 2013, the EFFC/DFI Carbon Calculator has been helping designers, contractors, and project owners measure the carbon impact of geotechnical works. It has already been used on thousands of projects worldwide, providing practical insight into how ground engineering choices affect carbon emissions.
Now, the EFFC and DFI are collaborating to develop the next-generation Carbon Calculator – a free, online tool designed to be more accurate, user-friendly, and accessible across the industry. This new version will:
-
Leverage up-to-date, location-specific emission factor databases, including Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs).
-
Provide real-time, project-specific carbon assessments tailored to geotechnical works.
-
Help companies meet client and regulatory expectations while identifying opportunities to reduce carbon emissions.
-
Be open access, ensuring a level playing field and accelerating industry-wide progress on sustainability.
Why It Matters
By upgrading to an online platform, the Carbon Calculator will empower the geotechnical community to take meaningful, measurable steps toward carbon reduction. It’s not only a tool for compliance but also a driver of innovation and a showcase of commitment to sustainability.
